Kitchen Sink Salad

This is my fourth and final Salad Saturday and it's my favorite. I call it the kitchen sink salad because there are so many ways you can dress it. Maybe I should have called it the Mix & Match salad. Oh well. You know how you can make the same black suit look different with a variety of accessories? Yeah? Well same thing. Start with the salad greens and dress it up.

First I want to introduce you to this bowl.  It's called OXO Good Grips Salad Chopper and Bowl. Thanks mom! I use this for just about all of my salads. By chopping the lettuce, I use less salad dressing because all of it isn't stuck on one leaf.

As I mentioned the first week, I buy a big bag of the Taylor Farms Lettuce from Sam’s. It’s cheap and it goes a long way because it’s bulky. The Sweet Butter Red combination, I buy from a grocery store. I use the Taylor Farms lettuce combined with either the Sweet Butter Red or Baby Spinach.

I have to credit my sister-in-law Nancy for getting me started with this salad. When she made it for me it had a combination of Balsamic Vinegar and Olive Oil. Occasionally I want the creaminess of the Kraft Lite Three Cheese Ranch, or just a splash of Italian. Most times and in the case of the Kitchen Sink Salad, I use Balsamic Vinegar and Olive Oil. I buy the Olive Oil spray - it keeps me from using too much.

Here are all the ways I dress up the Green Suit - depending on what is hanging in the cupboards:

Nancy's Original Salad:Salad Greens, Cranberries, Sun-dried Tomatoes, Feta Cheese mixed with Balsamic Vinegar and Olive Oil. This one is very light. Good for pairing with a heavy pasta dish.

Salad Greens, Cranberries, Grape Tomatoes, Feta Cheese, Red Onion mixed with Balsamic Vinegar and Olive Oil. If you want it sweet add red apple. If you want it more tart, add green apple.

If you want it tart and sweet just leave out the onion: Salad Greens, Golden Raisins, Grape Tomatoes, Feta Cheese, Green Apple mixed with Balsamic Vinegar and Olive Oil.

Kitchen Sink: Salad Greens, Cranberries, Grape Tomatoes, Feta Cheese, Apple, Green Pepper, Mushrooms, Red Onion Almond Accents mixed with Balsamic Vinegar and Olive Oil.

Here's the thing... This is a vegetarian Kitchen Sink Salad. I never add any chicken. It is very flavorful, you can decide how you want it based on what your palette has a taste for.

This salad and the three others can be found on my Salads & Wraps Pinterest Board.
