A Ginger Dressing Story with a side of Pepperoncini

I went to pick up take out for us on Saturday evening. It’s a Hibachi place we love that we haven’t been to in over a year. When we’ve eaten there, there is a bar with the sauce and you can fill up your own containers of what you want. That was no longer there. I asked for five containers of “the white sauce” and the lady said, “That’s what we put in there”. I took her at her word.

When I got home there were three containers of the white sauce and two of some other kind of sauce that might be an Asian Ginger Dressing but it’s too strong and I don’t like it. It’s the kind of strong that you can brush you teeth and use Listerine before bed and your breath will still wake you up in the middle of the night.

I’m capable of eating my Hibachi plain so I let the boys have the white sauce. My dinner tasted bland so I started looking for what I could put on it. I had my hand on a bottle of soy sauce and then remembered that I had a delicious Ginger dressing of my own.

When my mom and dad visited a couple weeks ago, they traveled with a prepared salad and Ginger dressing. My dad is a creature of habit and wants exactly what he eats at home.

Mom and I sat down to eat some salad, each with our different toppings. She used nuts, I used garbanzo beans. Since I knew it was an Asian Ginger dressing, I didn’t try it because I didn’t think I would like it.

Later when daddy fixed a bowl of salad he said, “One of the peppers is missing, who ate it?” I said, “Well it was on my plate but I threw it away.” He said, “Threw it away!?!” I said, “Yeah, I thought it was decoration.” He growled. He said, “Your mother doesn’t like them either, so I know how many were in there.” I said, “Well we have some in the refrigerator, you can replace it.” He said, “Why do you have them if you don’t like them?” I said, “I don’t know if I like them or not, I’ve used them in a recipe. I thought they were for seasoning and decoration. I didn’t know people ate them.” He growled again.

Daddy oooh’d and ah’d over the salad dressing even though mom made it and he’d probably had it a thousand times. He also smacked and told me I should try the peppers because they’re really good.

That moment when somebody’s food looks better than yours.

I asked mom where she got the salad dressing bottle because I liked it. She said on Amazon.

The morning they were packing up to leave, I took the salad dressing bottle out of the refrigerator. She said, “It’s only a little bit left, since you like the bottle you can have it.” Yay!

At lunch time I made myself a salad and decided to go for it with the salad dressing and I loved it! ILOVE IT!

I went out the next day and bought ingredients to make the salad dressing, and I bought another jar of Pepperoncini’s because now I love them too!

For the record, this salad dressing is DELICIOUS on Hibachi!
