Magic Myrrh

I’m a contributor in an Essential Oil Facebook group for the non-mlmREVIVE brand. Each week we spotlight an oil to help us all learn more about them. This week it’s my turn, so I thought I’d write about it here in my space and then share it there.

Circa 2011... I was reading a bedtime bible story about Naaman who had leprosy and was healed in the River Jordan. When Christopher asked me, "What's leprosy?" I said it was, "Bad skin." He said, "I bet he didn't put lotion on."

Christopher had eczema when he was little and it was worse if he didn't use lotion. It would have been wonderful if we'd known about essential oils and natural products to moisturize his skin.

Fast-forward to 2021 and the ‘bad skin’ on my feet…

I was looking online for something I could make for my feet. It doesn’t take long after flip flop season begins (or never ends on the East Coast of NC) that I get dry cracked heels.

I found a perfect Skin Healing And Regenerating Whipped Body Butter Recipe - “This whipped mango body butter recipe is the perfect rescue for red, itchy, chapped or cracked skin, stretch marks and even other skin conditions such as eczema and acne.”

Diffuser Blend using Myrrh

Myrrh is a skin healing essential oil and in biblical times it was indeed used to treat leprosy.

I decided to spotlight the oil MYRRH this week because 20 drops of it is used in the recipe and it has worked like magic!

Myrrh is one of those oils I bought to build my “medicine cabinet” without really knowing what I could use it for. I was excited to find a DIY recipe for skin regeneration using this oil. Myrrh is a therapeutic oil for cleansing, protecting, soothing, releasing, purifying, revitalizing and uplifting. Additionally it’s a great sunscreen and mosquito repellant.

Aromatic

The scent from the bottle is woodsy and rich. I’ll likely just use for it’s medicinal properties but for the purposes of writing this post, I’m currently diffusing this blend as a mood booster and I feel relaxed and uplifted.

From the book, “The Healing Power of Essential Oils” by Eric Zielinski, Myrrh has anti-cancer properties, is for mental clarity, multiple sclerosis, postpartum care, sleep, vision improvement and many other personal care uses.

I’ve made toothpaste containing Myrrh, using a recipe in this book.

I’m delighted to have learned so much about this one oil. Additionally, the combined oils in the Mango Butter that I’m using on my feet before bed KNOCKS.ME.OUT!

Note: I made one substitution in the Mango Butter using Red Raspberry Seed Oil in the place of Neem oil because that’s what I had. The Red Raspberry Seed Oil also has some wonderful skincare properties so it was a great substitution.

Note to pregnant women:DO NOT USE MYRRH

P.S. You could always just buy some Myrrh oil and mix it into some body butter already made. I can vouch for this product by Chatham Natural Skincare that I used to buy before making my own. She also makes a product I’ve not tried, called Ultimate Hydration - Nut And Mango Free.

But the Magic is in the Myrrh!

Enjoy!
