The Cigarette Man...
It's Finish the Sentence Friday!
"When I was a little kid, I thought... the cigarette man was real."
I shared the original story in May of 2012.
Pinterest Recipes: A Needle in a Haystack...
I have three "food" boards - Recipes I have tried, Recipes I should try and Weight Watchers.
It drives me nuts when I am looking for a recipe that I know I pinned, and of course I'll be looking for it from my phone, while in the parking lot of a grocery store.
The Secret Ingredient is Paprika...
When my son started playing football a couple months ago, practice was three nights a week. That meant I wasn't going to be home to cook.
After the first practice we were eating Popeye's fried chicken at 9pm.
To preserve my waistline and save some money, I really needed to get organized and plan meals ahead.
Sports Moms: How do YOU spell relief?
I don't know if I am cut out to be a sports mom - as if I have a choice. The last 8 weeks almost seem like an out of body experience. Thanks to Facebook, I have proof that I was present.
Wordless Wednesday on Me Time
One day I'll tell you the story. Today I'm just without words really - rather without time to write them.
The Halloween I went as "Supermom"...
I thought I had a lot of time on my hands. So I spent much of it overcompensating on single parenting and trying to make the best memories for Christopher in his father's absence.
Don't stop believing...
Just a few weeks ago, in my reflection of the shutdown post I said, "Sometimes I hate being a grown up." Sometimes I wish I could go back to the magic of believing in certain things...
App icons for mobile websites...
Web shortcuts for iOS devices
I don't know about you, but I do A LOT of stuff from the palm of my hand. Most times I am reading internet news and blogs from my phone.
Using an RSS feed reader app on the phone is cool, but what's even better is clicking the icon that belongs to the site I want to visit.
Fake it 'til you make it...
The latest and greatest among website technology is having an app for that. I've done my research and it is expensive. What you can get for free isn't much right now. Five years is a long time, so this might be a stretch... but I'm betting that over time some of these web hosts will have "app-making" as part of their package deal. Until then...
It's not rocket science...
Yesterday Christopher watched me trying to create an app icon. He said, "Are you making that for your blog?" I said, "Sort of." He said, "You're great at technology. I think that's the best thing you do." I said, "Hmmm. I am not sure how to take that." (flashes of unimpressed faces at recent crockpot meals go through my mind)...
Encouraging Words...
When I look at these words, it reminds me of a story I told here about words of encouragement and how they are effective.
Today Kristi Campbell, blogger at Finding Ninee has shared my story in her Our Land series.
When I eat this, I think of that...
Some food memories are kinda tragic - like the time it seemed like I sat with my plate of cold cabbage for hours - or the first time I cooked for my husband. Today I am sharing a list of 10 food memories prompted by the Monday Listicles link up.
Another way to tell a story...
Tapestry! It's an iOS and Android app, where you can create a story and share the tapable version. I am hoping the app takes off and I am able to reach another community of readers.
Tech Bytes: 5 iOS 7 Tips that Made My Day
If you have an iPhone and upgraded your software last month, check out: 5 iOS 7 Tips that Made My Day. My biggest fan commented: "I saw the blurb for this post on Facebook & your tone was so giddy, I had to come check out the full post. YOU definitely need to make Tech Bytes a regular feature."
5 iOS 7 Tips that Made My Day
At first update glance I was kinda like WHOA that's BRIGHT. I couldn't find this or that, and after the oooh that's pretty wore off, I couldn't see what the big deal was until I started reading about the features.
There are a bunch of helpful tips and tricks for navigating through the new features of iOS 7. Reading #iOS7 on Twitter was helpful, but you have to read between a lot of complaints to get to the good stuff.
In this post I have compiled 5 things I consider to be the good stuff.
Guest Posting on Tech Bytes...
Is it still a guest post if I'm blogging on my own website on my own other blog? ...never mind.
Today I'm blogging over on the tech side of Here's the thing... I needed to brain dump my geek side.
Backgrounds and Buttons and Vectors - Oh my!
So if a tree falls...never mind.
It doesn't matter if no one hears me. I'm not here to solve tech problems. I just like to share stuff that I learned and hope that someone finds it just as useful. Today I am linking to posts and websites that help me create a blog grab button, select a background texture and allowed me to customize free vector images.
"Mom are you famous?
Today I've been featured in Kokoa - an online magazine that focuses on the REAL life of people - not the rich and famous. You can check out my interview by clicking here.
I would love for you to leave a comment there, especially if you've read the book.
Married at seventeen... Who does that?
Today my mom and dad celebrate their 43rd wedding anniversary. I can't tell you how thrilled I am to share that they are still hanging.
You know what they say about meeting a man at the club - well it was a basement party.
A reflection of the "shutdown"...
Last night I tried to stay up until midnight to see what the verdict was going to be regarding the government shutdown. My husband is retired military and that retiree paycheck is supposed to be a given. No matter what, on the 1st of the month we can top off our bank account.
