The Darkness is Present

Spiritual Warfare - Is it real?

Iwrote a post back on November 11, 2016. You won't find it here now. I unpublished it after the shock had worn off. In a nutshell I wrote, it is what it is. He had won and there was nothing we could do about it. I wrote that I would not disrespect the new president of the United States the way others had disrespected the Obama administration. I was tired of what it had come to and I hoped that everybody was happy now.

I kept my social media silence while I'll laughed at and "liked" memes to lighten the mood. As time went on, I had to unfollow and unfriend people who I couldn't believe outwardly supported him. Even now, after all of this - OMG I've thought, "Shut up and go be stupid in private!"

Right now, I'm feeling nauseated. Every time I see his face and hear him speak, I feel a rage that makes my heart race. I feel sad, and I can't imagine that this can go on...

In this world, today and tomorrow and everyday after until the end... whatever time that is... We've got to work, we've got bills to pay and we've got our children to raise. We have our lives to live.

Circa 1998, reading Piercing The Darkness

Yet, we can't go on like this.

I've watched the news more in the last five days than I have in the last eight months and what sickens me the most is to see how many supporters he still has. People who rant and cheer and don't have a clue that they are part of the problem. It's good vs. evil and there's nothing great about it. Nothing great can come of this and it's downright scary.

In the times that we are living in now, I'm reminded of two books I read nearly 20 years ago. It was one volume of two books given to me as a birthday gift from my mom in December of 1997 and I finished the 800 something pages sometime in the new year.

Book Matter

Frank E. Peretti's two blockbuster spiritual thrillers, This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness, have opened millions of eyes to the shocking reality of the fierce, unseen battle waged daily between good and evil.

Now it's your turn.

Set in unremarkable small towns perhaps like your own, both This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness pit ordinary Christians against extraordinary evil at the highest levels. Their vivid portrayal of motives and actions of spiritual beings–demonic and angelic–and their breathtaking portrayal of the power of prayer will keep you on your knees. Their heart stopping action will keep you on the edge of your chair.

With contemporary settings, up-to-date religious issues, and believable characters, these unforgettably powerful novels are more than just wholesome entertainment. They'll challenge you to open your eyes to the spiritual battle that's raging in your world right now.

Spiritual Warfare is real

While the books were very entertaining and portrayed a truth that I could never shake, I just couldn't fathom the true idea of spiritual warfare back then. It was only a few years after reading these books and other contemporary Christian fiction that I'd wonder how these authors had the foresight to write something that was becoming more real everyday.

Frank E. Peretti's book was published in 1986, a solid ten years before Tim LaHaye's Left Behind series.

If you've been unable to get comprehension for how to live in and deal with these troubling times by going to church, or if your faith does not align with the Holy Bible, I encourage you to try reading the books I've mentioned. As written in the book matter, "their portrayal of the power of prayer will keep you on your knees" or get you there.

We need to pray.

The darkness is present and we need to pierce it.

Sporadically Yours,
